About

Ohioans rally against fracking on our public lands at Salt Fork State Park on July 1. Photo by Frank Bosso.

Save Ohio Parks is an all-volunteer group of Ohioans who are concerned about oil and gas extraction from our public lands — especially our most treasured natural resource: our Ohio state parks, forests, and wildlife areas.

Ohio is a highly industrialized state, and our parks represent some of the last vestiges of untouched natural areas in the state. These lands were meant to be protected so that Ohioans can enjoy the bounties of nature for many generations.

Whether we use our state parks for hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, or stargazing, we all benefit from protecting these and all Ohio public lands. We, the people of Ohio, pay for and use public lands, and we deserve a voice in what happens to them.

To learn more about the threat of fracking on Ohio public lands, please see other areas of this website:

  • The Timeline page will tell you how we got to a juncture where the state legislature is giving our public lands to the polluting oil and gas industry for exploitation and extraction.
  • The Issues area will provide you with talking points about the many harmful effects of fracking on climate, environment, and health as well as the legal, economic, and political ramifications of fracking on our state lands.
  • The News area contains links to media stories and our press releases regarding oil and gas extraction on Ohio public lands.
